Ghidra MCP servers compared

Unofficial guide. This site is an independent community guide and is not affiliated with the REA project. For authoritative docs see the official REA website and the morluto/rea GitHub repository. Commands here are taken from the official README/docs (checked 2026-10-13); REA changes quickly, so verify against the official docs.

This page covers third-party tools. reaguide.com is not affiliated with Hex-Rays, LaurieWired, mrexodia, bethington, clearbluejar or any project below. Commands are copied from each project's own README/docs (checked 2026-10-13) — these projects release often, so check the linked source before running.

Ghidra is free, so a Ghidra MCP server is the zero-cost way to let an AI agent decompile binaries. Three actively maintained options (all Apache-2.0, all pushed to in October 2026):

Runs asGhidra extension + Python bridgeGhidra plugin + Python bridge, or headless/DockerPython package / Docker

1. LaurieWired GhidraMCP

Install the release zip in Ghidra: File → Install Extensions → +, pick ghidra_12.1.4_PUBLIC_<date>_GhidraMCP.zip, restart, then enable GhidraMCPPlugin under File → Configure → Developer. Then in Claude Code:

claude mcp add ghidra -- uvx --from git+https://github.com/LaurieWired/GhidraMCP ghidra-mcp --ghidra-server http://127.0.0.1:8080/

Headless (no GUI; Python 3.10–3.13, GHIDRA_INSTALL_DIR set):

uvx --python 3.13 --from "ghidra-mcp[headless] @ git+https://github.com/LaurieWired/GhidraMCP" ghidra-mcp --headless --binary /path/to/target

Known issue: extension zips are built per Ghidra version; a mismatch makes the install fail (#170). Match the zip to your Ghidra exactly.

2. bethington/ghidra-mcp

Clone and use its setup tool (python -m tools.setup, see README for your OS). The stdio bridge:

uv run bridge-mcp-ghidra

Config tip from its troubleshooting section: spawn uv ENOENT means your MCP client (launched from a GUI or service) can't find uv on its PATH — put the absolute path to uv in command (find it with which uv), or run python -m tools.setup preflight (#441).

3. pyghidra-mcp

uvx pyghidra-mcp \
  --transport streamable-http \
  --project-path /absolute/path/to/ghidra-projects \
  /absolute/path/to/binary

Then connect Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http pyghidra-mcp http://127.0.0.1:8000/mcp

Codex: add to ~/.codex/config.toml

[mcp_servers.pyghidra-mcp]
url = "http://127.0.0.1:8000/mcp"

Note from its README: in .mcp.json, "type": "http" is required — an entry with only url is treated as stdio by Claude Code.

Or: Ghidra through REA

REA can also use Ghidra as its native provider while adding JS/Electron, .NET and web analysis — see Set up Ghidra for REA.

FAQ

Which Ghidra MCP server is best?

GhidraMCP for the simplest setup, bethington/ghidra-mcp for the largest tool set (209 tools, write access, emulation), pyghidra-mcp for headless multi-binary automation.

Can Ghidra MCP run without the Ghidra GUI?

Yes. GhidraMCP has a --headless mode via PyGhidra, pyghidra-mcp is headless by design, and bethington/ghidra-mcp supports a headless/Docker server.

Is Ghidra MCP free?

Yes. Ghidra and these three servers are open source (Apache-2.0).
